  • Oh have you not heard? Heard what? Brian! Don’t!

A-well-a, everybody’s heard about the bird
Bird, bird, bird, b-bird’s the word

A-well-a, bird, bird, bird, well, the bird is the word

Surfin’ Bird is a song that performed by an american surfin’ band called “The Trashmen” and it was #4 in the Billboard 100 when it came out. I am not sure but it might be one of the first mashups ever made. It is the combination of of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons, “Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow” and “The Bird’s the Word” and was released in 1963.

Another funny thing about “The Trashmen” is that they are for Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is interesting for a surfin band.

The song was first used by John Waters on his 1972 movie Pink Flamingos, a 1972 American transgressive comedy directed by John Waters. When the film was initially released in 1972, it caused a huge degree of controversy and thus became one of the most notorious cult films ever made. It made an underground star of the flamboyant female impersonator, Divine. The independent film also stars David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole, Danny Mills, Cookie Mueller, and Edith Massey. Produced on a budget of only $10,000, it was mostly shot on weekends in Phoenix, a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland.

Then the song was later used in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, a war film based on the novel The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. The title refers to the full metal jacket bullet type of ammunition used by infantry riflemen. The film follows a squad of U.S. Marines from their basic training through their participation in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War.

But the most fun use of the song is on Family Guy! Our Friend “el rusoooaaaaaooooooaaa” already talked about Seth Mc Farlane in his “El hombre mas gracioso del munco?
