Weezer goes pop.

So yesterday while I was researching about “Peanut Butter Jelly Time!!!” I found that great video from Weezer. The video was a pleasant surprise since it is packed with Internet Culture.
The video was shot by Matthew Cullen from Motion Theory, which they deserve a whole post dedicated since their work is stunning (maybe tomorrow!).
But let’s dig deeper into this video, because it is just great. First watch it again.

Right at the beginning we have the great Diet Coke and mentos homage. Steve Sprangler initiated this phenomena in 2002 and of course it was replicated all over the world. There is even a world record set for it in the Guinness Book and also MythBusters had to prove it too. Here is a clip of guys replicating the water fountain in front of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. As you can see the guys from Weezer are dressed like the guys in the video.

Then we have Gary Brolsma a.k.a. “Numa Numa Guy”. He has a couple of cameos on the video. Here is the original one.

A couple of times we one of Weezer’s member wearing multiple t-shirts. That is a homage to Matt McAllister who has the world record for wearing multiple t-shirts at the same time, 150!!!

A really funny appearance is Mark Allen Hicks, or best known as “Afro Ninja” who tries to perform a back flip and well, you’ll see.

Another personality is Lauren Caitlin Upton, she was Miss South Carolina Teen USA and became famous not because or her beauty but for her incoherent response to a question during Miss Teen USA 2007.
As part of a question and answer portion of the 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant, Upton was asked by the questioner Aimee Teegarden, “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”
Upton responded:
“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our [children].”
Here is the video

One that is actually cool is Judson Laipply, he is an American motivational speaker and a comedian. As part of his routine he had a segment called “The Evolution of Dance”. It is just great.

On a sad note, we have Chris Crocker and his “Please leave Britney Alone” video when the press was attacking Britney Spears.

We also have a little of that girl that talks about sex on youtube wearing colorful stockings, her name is Kicesie and it is probably the worst 4:35 that you will spend watching a video, but here it is.

To overcome that, i have a good comedian Liam Kyle Sullivan who plays a stereotypical blond teenage girl. The video is really funny.

As any other video that focuses on Internet phenomena Star Wars is a must. In the video we see a lot of lightsabers and the origin is Ryan vs. Dorkman, two fans of Star Wars that did their own version. Really, really good.

One character that is understated in the video is Jeong-Hyum Lim. He became famous thanks to his cover version of Canon Rock. It is pretty awesome what the guy can do.
