The world lost a great man today. Paul Newman was one of the great American actors, but he was also a humanitarian.
He was one of those celebrities that used his fame to do good. He founded Newman’s Own in 1982 as a for profit organization where Newman collected all the proceeds. That sounds like an awful selfish idea, but after taxes and all of that he donated 100% of the proceeds to charity.
Up to now he donated more than $220M dollars to different institutions.
The brand started with salad dressing, and has expanded to include pasta sauce, iced tea, lemonade, limeade, fruit cocktail juices, popcorn, pretzels, salsa, cookies, coffee, grape juice, dog food, cat food, and other offerings. Newman’s Own Limeade was introduced in 2004. Each label features a picture of Newman, dressed in a different costume to represent the product.
Larry King made a great 5 minute clip remembering Paul Newman.
