It looks like we are in a stream of music posts. Since Saturday we had “Hedwig“, “Calvin Harris, I created Disco” and “Eno the One” and I have insider information about what is going to happen tomorrow but I won’t tell, except that is good!
We also like collaborations here at Wasted Talent. We have numerous post about it, like this one and this one.
So I found a guy that has a cool project called “a collaborative music/spoken word project”. Darren Solomon is one of those characters that had an amazing life as a musician. He was the bass player for Ray Charles. He joined the band when he was 19! The rest of his bio is really funny.
Darren Solomon also toured with a Major 1970’s Music Icon, whose name he will not share with you, for fear that you will mock him.
Darren Solomon wrote the music for the John Turturro film “Lesser Prophets” and the theme to the A&E series “Parking Wars”.
Darren Solomon composed the music for the M&M’s commercial “Nothing Rhymes With Orange”, which was performed by Megan Mullally. For his efforts, he was awarded a Best Music Clio.
Darren Solomon refuses to raise his hands in the air, out of concern that he may appear like he just don’t care.
Darren Solomon currently makes music at Big Foote Music, in New York City.
Darren Solomon is a rabid fan of many different kinds of music, but if you deleted Joao Gilberto and Oscar Peterson there’d be a lot more room on the hard drive.
Darren Solomon conceived Science for Girls as a way to hear the songs in his brain out loud.
Darren Solomon is but mad north-north-west: when the wind is southerly he knows a Bach from a Sun Ra.
Anyhow he had this idea to create a gigantic song. And for that he has very simple instructions so everyone can participate. You will record your instrument or voice and upload it to youtube and send him a link. He will put into the wall of videos and that’s it. You are part of a great project.
Here are the rules to participate.
-Sing or play an instrument, in Bb major. Simple, floating textures work best, with no tempo or groove. Leave lots of silence between phrases.
-Record in a quiet environment, with as little background noise as possible.
-Wait about 5-10 seconds to start playing.
-Total length should be between 1-2 minutes.
-Thick chords or low instruments don’t work very well.
-Record at a low volume to match the other videos.
-You can listen to this mix on headphones while you record.
-After you upload to YouTube, play your video along with the other videos on this page to make sure the volume matches.
