So today is Turkey Day here. The history is that back in 1621 the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians shared an autum celebreation feast. The turkey was actually one of the only things that was in that first celebration.
Thanksgiving in the US has become one of the major holidays and has a lot of traditions that go with it. The first one and most common is the turkey (picture above). There are a certain amount of things that have to be in a thanksgiving dinner:
- Stuffing for the turkey, everyone and their mother has the best recipe…
- Mashed potatoes (with or without marshmallows)
- Cranberry Jelly (Bart showed us the tradition of getting it out of the can without breaking it)
- Pumpkin Pie

Thanksgiving is all about spending time with the family, stuffing yourself to death with food, watch football and get drunk. That pretty much sums it up.
One of the best things about Thanksgiving is Black Friday. It has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term “Black Friday” has been traced back only to the 1960s.

The term “Black Friday” originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black. The stores have super cheap electronics and things called doorbusters. This are highly desirable items that are really cheap and placed at the entrance. This is what happens.

So, there you go. That is what I will be doing today. Cooking a turkey and the whole thing for the first time and doing the whole nine yards.
